 Steven Cave was born in the local area and attended school at Kotara High. He completed his General Dental Degree (BDS) at Sydney University in 1993 and graduated with First Class Honours and was awarded the University Medal. He then practiced at Charlestown for four years before moving to Brisbane in 1997. While there, he obtained a Masters Degree in Orthodontics (MDSc) through the University of Queensland before returning to Newcastle in 2000 to take up residence in the Port Stephens area.
He is a member of the Australian Dental Association, Australian Society of Orthodontists and the Australian Orthodontic Board.
His wife, Christine is a dental technician and they have three young children.
