Robert Cerny

Robert Cerny’s early years of education were spent in Tasmania but he is now a long-term resident of Newcastle. He graduated from Sydney University in 1972 with his General Dental Degree (BDS) and then practiced as a Dental Officer at Richmond RAAF Base for three years. In 1978, he graduated with his Masters Degree in Orthodontics (MDSc) from Sydney University and in that same year he moved to Newcastle with his family and started an orthodontic practice in Darby Street, Newcastle.

He is a current member of the Australian Dental Association, Australian Society of Orthodontists, World Federation of Orthodontists and the American Society of Orthodontists. He has been an active member of the local Division of the Australian Dental Association being a committee member for many years and a past chairperson. Having a long-term interest in researching new ways to improve dental treatments, he has 10 published articles and one book in current circulation. He has been active in lecturing to the dental fraternity on a variety of subjects both in Australia and Overseas.

His interests outside dentistry include most sports, especially golf. His wife Zephie Comino-Cerny is a practicing dentist in the Newcastle region and they have three adult daughters.
