First Visit

At Hunter Valley Orthodontics your first visit will include dental photographs, x-rays if required and an exam by one of our specialised orthodontists, where you will find out about your treatment options in a detailed consultation that usually takes 45mins to 1 hour. Without an initial consultation, it’s near impossible to determine the cost of braces treatment. Your first consultation costing will range between $300 – $420. It is important that you always see a registered specialist for all your orthodontic needs and prioritise the health and safety of your teeth over the cost.

What Happens Next?

If orthodontic treatment is decided on, you will receive a written quote. You do not need to decide at this appointment if you wish to go ahead with treatment as the quote is valid for 6 months. If you wish to proceed with treatment you will make some appointments to have braces fitted and any necessary appointments with your dentist if needed. If you are not ready for treatment, we will monitor you in the following months and years until you are ready or it is determined that you don’t require orthodontic treatment.

Costing

Each individual patient is unique with the make-up of their teeth. So no two orthodontic cases are the same therefore costing will depend on the severity of the case and the type of braces, Invisalign or appliances – there’s no ‘one size fits all’ price.   Our treatment coordinators will discuss the fee with you before treatment is commenced. When it comes to traditional metal braces anywhere between $6,000 and $10,000+ for a standard 18 month plan can be expected. Of course, the cost of treatment will vary depending on the type of appliances and duration. Fees might also be higher if any other appliances are needed in conjunction with braces (such as expansion plates, anchorage implants or bite correcting springs). Treatments involve having regular appointments every 4-8 weeks until your teeth are aligned in the ideal occlusion.

In some cases, smile correction via a series of clear aligners such as Invisalign® may be a suitable option. While clear aligners can cost between $5,000 to $12,000 for a full course of treatment, their success is dependent on the particulars of your case and wearing the aligners consistently.

Once teeth are aligned you will move onto the retention phase and have Permanent Fixed Lingual Retainers fitted to maintain the straightness of your teeth. The fee covers the entire treatment from fitting of appliances to retention and observation periods. If you are in a private health fund contact them to see what rebate you are entitled to.
